Deborah Hoger is the proud Dunghutti founder of Riley Callie Resources, a business committed to providing resources to improve Aboriginal education across Australia.
When Deborah’s children started school, she quickly realised that there was a lack of authentic Indigenous resources used in the classroom. Riley Callie Resources began with a vision to rectify this gap in the market and create meaningful learning opportunities for all students. Deborah said, “I want to see schools all over the country celebrating our cultures in respectful and engaging ways which showcase what Indigenous Australia has to offer. I want my kids to grow up in an education system that is truthful about Australia’s history.”
As a Dunghutti woman working on Kabi and Jinibarra Country, Riley Callie Resources not only gives Deborah the opportunity to improve Indigenous education, but also has a meaningful impact on her life, allowing her to be more present for her own children. “It provides me with financial stability and the capacity to be a stay at home mum to my children. I get the flexibility to work to my own hours and to build wealth through growing my business, and be there for my kids when they need me. Working my own business from home means I don't miss the little things with my kids, which I love.”
For Deborah, being a member of the Welcome to Country family has lead to an increase in sales and access to a community of support. “The publicity and constant support through ordering I have seen from Welcome to Country has been wonderful. I love being part of a marketplace which highlights the diversity of Indigenous businesses in such a prominent way.”
